Haiyan Fu MD., PhD
Associate Professor
National Clinical Research Center for Kidney Disease
State Key Laboratory of Organ Failure Research
Division of Nephrology, Nanfang Hospital,Southern Medical University
Dr. Fu has long-standing interests in investigating the pathogenesis of renal injury/repair which is associated with the changes of kidney local microenvironments. Based on her research, she for the first time raised the novel notion “Niche” during kidney diseases progression and she has revealed that Tenascin-C is the major component of the Niche in kidney within the field.
Dr. Fu has produced more than 30 papers in well-respected scientific journals including the Journal of American Society of Nephrology (JASN, impact factor: 8.966) and Gastroenterology (impact factor: 18.392). She also serves as an editorial member of the Journal of Urology and Research, as well as the guest editor of the Journal of Biomarkers.
Dr. Fu earned her medical degree from the Army Medical University. She then completed her master and PhD degree at the Air Force Medical University. From 2013 to 2016, Dr. Fu worked as a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Pittsburgh, School of Medicine. During this period, her research was invited to be presented at the annual kidney week held by the American Society of Nephrology.
Currently, as an Associate Professor, Dr. Fu belongs to the following academic societies, the American Society of Nephrology, the American Society of Molecular Biology, the Chinese Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and the Chinese Pharmacological Society. She also included in the “the SMU Recruitment Program of Global Experts” in 2013 and belonged to the Guangdong Science Foundation Innovative Group program, as well as the SMU Innovative Research Team Culturing Program. Meanwhile, she is also the candidate of the “Outstanding Young Scientists Fostering Project” sponsored by the Nanfang Hospital.
