ZhiJian Guo, MD, PhD
Associate Professor & Associate Chief Physician
National Clinical Research Center for Kidney Disease
Division of Nephrology, Nanfang Hospital,Southern Medical University
Dr. Guo received his MD & PhD degree at the First Military Medical University (now Southern Medical University) in 2002, and joined Nanfang Hospital since then.
Dr. Guo’s research interests include the mechanism of cardiovascular diseases in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). His study proved that advanced glycation end products (AGEs) and advanced oxidation protein products (AOPPs) play important roles in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis, which is extremely prevalent among CKD patients. He identified that receptor of AGEs (RAGE) is the functional receptor for AOPPs in endothelial cells. In his study, the extraction of Picrorhiza scrophulariiflora, a traditional Chinese herb Medicine, can significantly improve the acceleration of atherosclerosis caused by AGEs and AOPPs which arouse wide attention.
