Professor Liu has been working in the forefront of clinical treatment of kidney disease. His research intereste included the conservative treatment of acute and chronic renal failure and blood purification therapy. He is now in charge of the Blood Purification Center of nephrology department. He is the member of the following academic societies such as Chinese Hospital Association of Blood Purification, member of Blood Purification Access Academic Group in China, Vice Chairman of Guangdong Provincial Hospital Association of Blood Purification, Vice Chairman of Guangdong Blood Purification Therapy Control Center, member of Guangdong Medical Doctor Association in Nephrology, Head of Blood Purification Access Academic Group in Guangdong, member of expert panel in Blood Purification of Chinese Medical Association. 

He had presided over 7 national and provincial fund projects, won the third prize in the national new drug development award and the first prize in Guangdong technology progress award. He has published over 60 articles and participated in the composition of 3 treatises.
